WHAT WE DO

Telemark Art Center imparts knowledge about art. This means that we are an information center and an exhibition institution concerning professional art and crafts in Telemark. The Art Center also has an overview of and can mediate contact with all professional artists in the country through a national organization for art centres, Kunstsentrene i Norge (KIN). In all there are 15 centres, one in each county.

The Art Centers concentrate mainly on the following five areas of activity:

• Art exhibitions

• Public Art Productions

• Production of touring educational exhibitions in Telemark

• Diverse activities for artists who are members of the art center, such as seminars, courses and exhibitions.

This service is for local councils, the county council and the general public.

EXHIBITIONS

Telemark Art Center is located in the historic Norges Bank building in Liegata 8 in Skien. The main exhibitions are in the large gallery and project room on the first floor, and also in the old bank vault on the ground floor. 

The main exhibitions are usually curated by the art center’s external curators during a given period, by its own staff or by artists connected to the Art Center through the regional arts organisations. We cannot, unfortunately, receive exhibition applications

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

The imparting of knowledge about art is our most important task. We welcome all groups that would like guided tours and workshop activities, and we try to give a positive experience.

We have experience with different target groups and strive to accommodate all. Our exhibitions are very different, but this is not usually a barrier for any of the groups. A good dialogue makes art relevant.
