GO! FIGURE!

Siw-Anita Kirketeig Curators: Kjersti Solbakken and Lars Stue The artists in the exhibition Go! Figure! all work to identify and comment on conventions concerning the 3 dimensional visual language which surrounds us daily. Through different approaches the artists are able to raise existential questions by way of the materials used. How can aspects such as religion, psychosis, the cycle of nature, or our structures of society influence the understanding of the relationship between the rational and the spiritual in our collective conscience? Øystein Wyller Odden, by way of elementary principles of chance, creates situations which illustrate how the the shaping of architectural modules is often determined by financially motivated standards. With his groups of objects and materials, Kent Fonn Skåre asks questions about our programmed understanding of the artificial environment in which we move. Gunvor Nervold Antonsen explores the extreme limits and points of convergence in emotional processes where precision tools have broken down and have become an uncontrolled mass. Siw-Anita Kirketeig’s text-works display thoughts of an inner spiritual life manifested in the shapes of natural landscapes. Gunnar Torvund juxtaposes sacred symbols with objects of a profane character. The sculptures stir a well of collective thoughts and refer to ageless shared human experience. The curators Kjersti Solbakken and Lars Sture have, in connection with the exhibition, organized a platform for Norwegian publishers, artists and other participants who work with alternative publications. |
